Every day, all over the world, countless millions of chicken eggs are eaten, and countless millions of chickens are killed, their flesh ending up on dinner plates and in soup bowls. Yet, in spite of our civilization's ever expanding use and killing of these animals (now well over 40 billion annually), almost none of us have any idea at all of who they are, or even the vaguest notion of how they might behave if allowed to live in an environment free of exploitation. When we see with our own eyes that they are each one individuals capable of perceptions, emotions, and complex relationships that we can understand and relate to, the change of perspective can be unexpected, and jarring.

This short documentary excerpt reveals a simple yet profound truth: how we treat others is often predicated on mistaken ideas of who they are.
