Animal husbandry

A more traditional term for what is now commonly called Animal Science, it refers to the knowledge, techniques, and technology employed by the animal-using industry to maximize profits and minimize losses. Animal husbandry is studied and taught in the United States at "land grant" colleges, which are located in every US state and serve as centers for agricultural research. Animal husbandry typically includes the study of how to minimize the level of disease and pain experienced by animals being exploited and killed. This aspect of husbandry is often mis-described as the study of "animal welfare."
